Basilica of the Sea
The church is not only old beautiful red and gothic which it shares with lots of other churches but it is absolutely uniquely located directly above the water on the cliff. This makes it the prime spot for romantic weddings which last for ever.
The deeper secret of the church is its tower and its roof construction completely made of oak 700 years old and bells dating back to 1410. The tower was historically part of the city defense system and the castle of the Teutonic Knights and was only later changed to become a church. So the church is build the wrong way around. One sees this when one wonders about its strong tower not really very gothic well yes but it was a defense tower the holes for shooting are inside still visible. Currently works are under way to reopen the tower to enjoy the unique wooden construction and the beautiful view over the whole bay.
